Cells Test Flashcards
Difference between unicellular and multicellular
Unicellular: Made of a single cell.
Multicellular: Consisting of many cells.
Multi cellular- human
Unicellular-amoeba
3 statements that make up cell theory
- All living things are composed of cells
- Cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things
- All cells are produced from other cells
How specialized cells share a division of labor and what types of organisms they are found in
Specialized cells perform specific functions that benefit the entire organism. These specialized cells share a “division of labor” which means own type of cell does one kind of job, while other type of cells do other jobs.
Specialized cells are only found in multi cellular organisms. Examples would be humans, dogs, and plants. They are not found in unicellular organisms
5 levels of organization of the body and definitions of the levels

Organism Organ system Organ Organelle Tissue Cell
Difference between elements and compounds
Compound: A substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a specific ratio, or proportion.
Element: A pure substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by chemical or physical means.
Functions of the 4 organic organic compounds found in cells and their functions
Carbohydrates- energy is released when carbs are broken down
Lipids- cells store energy from fats and oils for later use
Proteins- much of a cells structure and function depends on protein.
Nucleic acids- contains the instruction that cells need to carry out all the functions of life
Difference between organic and inorganic compound.
Inorganic Compounds that don’t contain carbon
Organic contains carbon
The nescessary inorganic compound cells need to survive
Water
Importance of water cells
Water plays a key role in carrying substances in and out of cells
Water changes temperature slowly, it helps keep the temperature of the cells to change rapidly
Help cells keep their shape
Most chemical reactions in cells depend on substances that must be dissolved in water
Water itself takes part in many chemical reactions is cells
The difference between plant and animal cells
Plants have chloroplast and a cell wall
Animal cells have lysosomes
Function of the cell wall
Supports and protects plant cells
Function of ribosomes
produces proteins.
Function of nucleus
Nucleus controls most of the functions of the cell using DNA
Function of mitochondria
convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out its functions.
All of the organelles that help move materials on a cell
