cells Flashcards
what does the nucleus do in a cell
- contains genetic material,DNA determining the development, structure and material of the cell
-The nucleus controls protein synthesis and the development and function of a cell
-The DNA and protein is in the form of chromosomes
name all parts of the nucleus
what does the nuclear envelope do and what does it have
It allows communication with the cytoplasm
it does this using nuclear pores
name the different sub cellular structures in a Eukaryotic cell
what are ribosomes made up of
Protein and RNA ( rRNA)
what is the function of the ribosomes
Used in protein synthesis
structure of ribosomes and where are they found
- 2 sub units
-some in cytoplasm some in REM
ribosomes in eukaryotes
80s
ribosomes in prokaryotic
70s
What is the endoplasmic reticulum formed from
consist of flattened membrane sacs which form an internal transport system in the cell
what is the rough endoplasmic reticulum covered in
ribosomes
what is the function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum
to transport polypeptides
what does the surface of the rough endoplasmic reticulum do
the ribosomes produce secretory proteins which are sent to the Golgi body for modification and/or packaging
what does the smooth endoplasmic recticulum do
transports lipids/ fats
what does the Golgi body do
-Adds carbohydrates to proteins recieved from rough endoplasmic reticulum to form glycoproteins
-Packages proteins/glycoproteins into Golgi vesicles for secretion
-Produces lysosomes a type of Golgi body that releases lyzozymes
