Q

what does the nucleus do in a cell

A
  • contains genetic material,DNA determining the development, structure and material of the cell
-The nucleus controls protein synthesis and the development and function of a cell

15
Q

what does the Golgi body do

A

-Adds carbohydrates to proteins recieved from rough endoplasmic reticulum to form glycoproteins
-Packages proteins/glycoproteins into Golgi vesicles for secretion
-Produces lysosomes a type of Golgi body that releases lyzozymes

16
Q

What is the function of lysosomes in the cell

A

-Digestion of material taken in by phagocytosis- lysosomes fuse with the vesticles formed during phagocytosis, releasing hydrolytic enzymes which digest the material inside
-Non functioning organelles within the cell may be engulfed and digested within lysosomes
-Release of enzymes outside the cell-sometimes the enzymes of lysosomes are released from the cell

17
Q

what are lysosomes/what are they made of

A

They are simple sacs containing hydrolytic enzymes surrounded by a single membrane
lysosomes formed in the Golgi body

18

What is mitochondria involved in

A

Aerobic respiration

19

What is the usual shape of mitochondria

A

rod shaped

20

two membranes forming around an inner matrix

21

What is between the outer smooth membrane and the inner folded membrane in mitochondria

A

inter-membrane space

what are the folds of the inner membrane in mitochondria called

A

cristae
