Cells Flashcards
What are Cells?
Cells are the basic unit of life. All living things contain cells.
What do Cells do?
Cells are responsible for carrying out all of the essential functions of life, such as metabolism, growth, and reproduction.
Animal Cells
These are eukaryotic cells that form the tissues of animals. They have a nucleus, cytoplasm, and various organelles, but lack a cell wall.
Plant Cells
These are eukaryotic cells that form the tissues of plants. They have a cell wall, chloroplasts for photosynthesis, and a large central vacuole.
Prokaryotic Cells
These are simple, single-celled organisms that lack a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. They include bacteria and archaea.
Eukaryotic Cells
These are more complex cells with a true nucleus and various membrane-bound organelles. They make up plants, animals, fungi, and protists.
