Cells Flashcards
Eukaryote Cells - us
Nucleus, Membrane-bound organelles, linear chromosomes in the nucleus, big in size, mitosis
Prokaryote Cells - bacteria
Do not have a true nucleus, no membrane, singular circle DNA, small, binary fusion
All Cells have…
DNA (code for proteins)
Ribosome (makes proteins)
Cell Membrane (gatekeeper)
Cytoplasm (fluid inside cell - causes reactions)
What are Cells?
Basic unit of life - all organisms are made up of cells
arise from pre-existing cells (cell divison)
Types of Eukaryote cells
Protists, fungi, animal, plant
Protists
Unicellular, autotrophic or heterotrophic, prefer aquatic or moist environments
eg. yeast, protozoa, algae
Fungi
multicellular, heterotrophic, cell walls, reproduce using spores (asexual)
eg. mushrooms, molds
Animal
multicellular, heterotrophic, no cell wall
eg. humans, dogs
Plant
multicellular, autotrophic, cell wall, large vacuole. chloroplast (convert light energy)
eg. trees, flowers
Types of Prokaryote cells
bacteria, archaea
Bacteria - simplest organism
unicellular, no organelles, very small, live in warm moist enviroments, 98% not harmful, strong cell wall
eg. bacilli, diplococci
Archaea
unicellular, very small, no organelles, live without O2, no light, cell wall, extremophilic (extreme conditions) thermophysical (extreme temperatures)
eg. euryarchaetota
What type of DNA do Prokaryote cells have?
circular DNA, small plasmid DNA
