Cell Theory
All living organisms are made of one or more cells.
Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in an organism.
Cells come from preexisting cells.
Homeostasis
The ability to maintain a constant internal environment
Surface Area to Volume Ratio
Cell grows and the volume increases faster than the surface area.
Plasma Membrane
Outer boundary acts as a barrier.
Cytoplasms
The region of the cell that is within the plasma membrane and that includes the fluid, the cytoskeleton. And all of the organelles except the nucleus.
Cytosol
The part of the cytoplasms that does not contain membrane bound organelles and contains small particles such ad ribosomes.
Nuclear Matrix
Protein skeleton that helps with the shape of the nucleus
Phospholipid Bilayer
What the plasma membrane and cell organelles is made of. Consists of a hydrophilic phosphate and a hydrophobic fatty acid tail.
Sterols
Cell membranes have this between the tails of the phospholipid. Makes the membrane more firm and freeze protectant.
Chromatin
When a cell does not divide, the DNA is in the form of this threadlike material.
Chromosomes
Structures in the nucleus made of
Chloroplast
Use light energy to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water. Contains thylakoids that contains chlorophyll that absorbs light energy
