Cell Junctions Flashcards
-also called membrane junction
-the connection between the neighboring cells or the contact between the cell and extracellular matrix
-Tissues are formed from cell-cell connections and cell-matrix connection
Cell Junctions
-is a complex network of macromolecules (proteins, glycosaminoglycan, proteoglycans) secreted by cells
-includes connective tissue, basal lamina, exoskeletons, cartilage/bones
Extracellular Matrix
Cell juction that Provides mechanical stability by anchoring the cytoskeleton of one cell to that of another cell
Adhering junction
Cell juction that forms a continuous band around each cell to prevent leaking between adjoining cells
Tight junction
Cell junction that provides direct intercytoplasmic communication between joined cells
Gap juction
is a connective tissue consisting of cells suspended in a fluid
Blood
Cell that carries oxygen all around the body (also known as erythrocyte)
Red blood cells
cells that contains granules
granulocytes
cell that helps is phagocytosis, help in removal of foreign cells and toxins
Neutrophil
cell that fights against parasitic infection and allergic conditions
Eosinophil
Produces inflammatory and allergic reactions, releasing its granular contents containing histamine.
Basophil
Cells that do not contain granules
Agranulocytes
Cell that produces antibodies, defense against pathogenic organisms.
Lymphocyte
Fighs off bacteria and fungi and viruses, becomes macrophages, dendritic cells
Monocyte
type of cell that is a small cytoplasmic fragments of a larger cell, responsible for blood clotting
Platelet
