Cell cycle Flashcards
Last Resort
Two Main stages
Interphase
Cell Division
Mitoses, Cytokinesis
What is interphase?
Cell undergoes many activities including growth and replication of DNA
DNA is in long thin strands called?
Chromatin
What is Mitosis?
The two copies of DNA are separated to opposite ends of the cell
4 stages of Mitosis
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase. Telophase
What happens during Prophase?
Long strands of DNA condense and thicken so chromosomes become visible
What is prophase?
Nuclear membranes break down
Replicated chromosomes appear as identical strands called?
sister chromatids
Sister chromatids are joined by a
centromere
What is Metaphase?
Spindle fibres move sister chromatids to centre of cell
What is Anaphase?
Centromeres split to separate chromatids
Spindle fibres move chromatids to opposite ends of the cell
What is Telophase
Nuclear Membranes from around new groups of chromosomes
What is Cytokinesis
Division of cytoplasm and organelles to form two new daughter cells
