Caution Lights Flashcards
ENG OUT
Condition: engine power failure or Ng tachometer generator failure. Ng at or below 55 +/- 3%
Corrective Action: Engine power failure accompanied by an aural tone. Monitor Nr and engine instruments and enter autorotation if power failure is confirmed. If actuation of warning system is the result of tach-gen failure or speed switch failure, land as soon as practicable.
ENG FIRE
Condition: excessive heat in engine compartment
Corrective Action: engine fire EP
BATTERY HOT
Condition: battery case temperature 60 +/- 3*C or higher.
Corrective Action: BATT switch- off. Land as soon as possible.
Note- (c) switching the main battery off opens the main battery relay which causes the STBY BATT ON light to illuminate. As long as the ESS No 1 bus being powered normally, the standby battery will not be depleted.
BATTERY TEMP
Condition: battery case temperature is 54 +/- 3*C or higher
Corrective Action: BATT switch- off. Flight may be continued.
Note- (c) switching the main battery off opens the main battery relay which causes the STBY BATT ON light to illuminate. As long as the ESS No 1 bus being powered normally, the standby battery will not be depleted.
ROTOR LOW RPM
Condition: Nr less than 90 +/- 3%
Corrective Action: collective lower to preserve Nr. Check the twist grip full open and follow engine failure procedures. If activation of warning system is a tach-gen failure monitor engine instruments and land as soon as practicable
ENG CHIP/ CLEAR CHIP
Condition: metal particles on engine chip detector
Corrective Action: Engine instruments- check instruments for secondary indications of impending failure. If these indications exist, land as soon as possible. If no secondaries exist, proceed as follows:
First chip limit- press CLEAR CHIP; if light goes out, note the time and continue flight. If light remains, land as soon as possible.
Second chip light- if within than 30 minutes of the first, land as soon as possible. If more than 30 minutes have elapsed since the first light, press CLEAR CHIP and proceed as with the first light.
Third or fourth chip light- if within 50 flight hours of the first, land as soon as possible and make no attempt to clear chip. All chip lights shall be documented on a MAF.
TRANS CHIP/ CLEAR CHIP
Condition: Metal particles on transmission chip detector or freewheeling unit.
Corrective Action: Instruments- check transmission instruments for impending failure. If these indications exist, execute imminent transmission procedures. If not secondaries indications exist proceed as follows.
First chip light- press clear chip. If TRANS CHIP light goes out note the time and continue flight. If TRANS CHIP remains, land as soon as possible.
Second chip light- if within 30 minutes of first chip light land as soon as possible. If more than 30 minutes have elapsed press CLEAR CHIP and proceed as with first light.
Any subsequent light- if within 50 flight hours of the first land as soon as possible and make no attempt to clear chip. All chip lights shall be documented on a MAF. There is no limit to the amount of chips an aircraft may have during the 50 hour winds. Remove and replace is solely driven by the size and/or material of the chip.
TRANS OIL PRESS
Condition: transmission oil pressure at or below 30 +/- 2 psi
Corrective Action: land as soon as possible
Note- check the transmission oil pressure with the twist grip full open. Illumination of the TRANS OIL PRESS light is common while the twist grip is at flight idle. However, the gauge should indicate positive pressure.
TRANS OIL TEMP
Condition: Transmission oil temp above 110*C
Corrective Action: land as soon as possible
T/R CHIP
Condition: Metal particles on tail rotor gearbox chip detector
Corrective Action: land as soon as possible
TRQ
Condition: flashes once per sec in transient range. Flashes twice per sec when limit is exceeded.
Corrective Action: in transient range- adjust collective as required to remain within limits. Above limit- if 100-110% five sec transient limit has been exceeded adjust the collective as required to remain within limits and check for secondaries. If 100% has been exceeded land as soon as practicable. If 120% has been exceeded land as soon as possible.
Warning- lowering the collective to avoid an over torque may create or exacerbate an unsafe flight profile. An over torque is preferable to further damage or destruction of the aircraft.
TOT
Condition: flashes once per sec for transient range and twice per sec when limit is exceeded
Corrective Action:
Transient range- adjust collective to remain in limits
Exceeded- Land as soon as possible
A/F FUEL FILTER
Condition: impending bypass of filter
Corrective Action: Land as soon as possible
Warning- be prepared for fuel control malfunction or complete power loss
FUEL PUMP
Condition: one or both fuel pumps inoperative
Corrective Action: refer to fuel pump failure procedures
Warning- 10 gallons unusable
FUEL LOW
Condition: less than 20 gallons of fuel remaining
Corrective Action: monitor fuel quantity. If fuel pump light on, land as soon as possible
