-gather supplies on clean surface
-wash hands/put on gloves
-check body alignment

Preparing for Care

-Cover C with large towel
-Place blue pad between catheter tubing and C skin
-Check catheter for kinks
-fold back towel,exposing only catheter tubing

Question 4

Cleaning the Catheter

-have C check water temperature
-wet washcloth and apply drop of soap
-hold catheter tubing at the tip of the penis
-clean first four inches of tubing using downward motion
-repeat last step using clean side of washcloth three times
-rinse catheter tubing repeating same steps as before
-dry catheter tubing
-pat genital area dry with third wash cloth

Cleaning up

-make sure catheter is not kinked and drainage bad is lower than bladder
-remove blue pad and place in trash
-cover C with towel
-remove gloves and put on second pair
-Remove towel and replace covers
