Location
‘Where’ a place is (such as co-ordinates on a map).
This could include latitude and longitude.
For example, Harrogate is 16 miles north of Leeds.
Locale
A place where something happens, is set or has events associated with it.
The effect people have on their settings.
For example, Glastonbury music festival.
Sense of Place
The subjective (personal) and emotional attachment someone has to a place.
It’s meaning.
For example, where someone grew up.
Near Place
When a place is close geographically or when someone has a connections to that place so it is close to them.
For example, somewhere someone goes on holiday to frequently.
Far Place
When a place is far away geographically or when someone doesn’t have an emotional attachment to a place so it feels far away.
For example, Australia
Insider
Someone who feels comfortable or safe in the area they live, they are usually born in the area or grew up there.
For example, I feel like an insider in Harrogate
Outsider
Someone who feels as though they don’t belong in the place they live.
For example, someone who has moved to the UK from a different country
Experienced Place
Places that a person has spent a significant amount of time in.
For example, if someone goes to a city for work everyday
Media Place
Somewhere a person has only read about or seen in a film or TV show, these places could be real or fictional.
