What is BRAF?
An oncogene that causes uncontrolled growth
What are common sites of metastasis for malignant melanoma?
Skin Lung Liver Brain Bone Intestine
What is the MOA of nivolumab?
PD-1 inhibitor
What is the MOA of ipilimumab?
CTLA-4 inhibitor
What are the side effects of nivolumab?
Fatigue, Hyponatraemia Cough and SOB Lymphocytopaenia May lead to immune mediated reactions
What are the side effects of ipilimumab?
Fatigue
Diarrhoea, vomiting
Itching, rash
May lead to immune mediated reactions
When is a sentinel node biopsy indicated?
> 8mm or ulcerated
Why are ulcerated melanomas more serious than non-ulcerated?
Ulcerated have a higher risk of spreading
What is isolated limb perfusion?
Blood supply to the limb is cut off and drugs are allowed to circulate just within that limb
What is palliative care?
Care focused on relieving symptoms when a patient is at the end stages of their disease
What is the MOA of dacarbazine?
Cytotoxic alkylating agent
What other cancers is a sentinel node biopsy done in?
Breast Head and neck Colon Esophageal Stomach Thyroid Non small cell lung cancer
What drug targets the BRAF mutation?
Vemurafenib
