Cardiovascular system Flashcards
2.2.1/2.2.2 State the four components of blood and their function
Erythrocytes (red blood cells)- contain haemoglobin, carry oxygen around the body)
Leukocytes (White blood cells)- antibodies that fight disease/infection
Platelets (create a meshwork of fibres to help with clotting)
Plasma
2.2.4 Instrinsic vs Extrinsic regulation of heart rate
Instrinsic regulation- self- regulating nature of the cardiac tissue (involuntary), maintains its own rhythm without direction
Extrinsic controls- those that come from both hormonal responses as well as commands from nervous system (EXTERNAL FACTORS)
2.2.4 Sequence of excitation of the heart muscle
- S-A node
- A-V node
- Bundle of His
- Purkinje fibres
2.2.4 Extrinsic regulation, sympathetic influence & parasympathetic influence
sympathetic influence- increased heart rate parasympathetic influence- decreased heart rate
2.2.5 What is Pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation
Pulmonary circulation- caries DEOXYGENATED blood away from the heart to the lungs and returns oxygenated
Systemic circulation- carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body
