Cardio Drugs Flashcards
what class is pimobendan in
inotropic
what does pimobendan do
increase strength of contraction
also causes dilation of veins to reduce afterload
what are the side effects of pimobendan
anorexia, lethargy, and diarrhea
what are the contraindications of pimobendan
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis
what is the trade name of pimobendan
vetmedin
what is digoxin used to tx
same as pimobenden but not used as much any more in animal medicine
what are side effects of digoxin
anorexia, v, d, arrythmias
what is epinephrine used for
administered IV in emergency situations (resuscitation)
what is dopamine used for
IV in acute heart failure
can be used on all patients
what is dopamine side effects
v, tachycardia, dyspnea, blood pressure variations
how do diuretics work
reduce fluid in the body
increase urination by preventing absorption of Na and water from the loop of henle/distal convoluted tubules in the nephron
what is the trade name for furosemide
lasix or salix
what does furosemide do
rapidly reduces pulmonary edema, plural effusion, and abdominal effusion
what class is furosemide in
diuretic - very powerful
urination in 20-30 min or less
what are side effects of furosemide
hypokalemia, dehydration, hyponatremia, ototoxicity (cats), weakness, shock (if OD)
what do we need to monitor when patient is on furosemide
electrolytes q3-6months
when do we need to use caution for when using furosemide
dehydrated or shocky patients
what is torsemide and why do we use it
powerful diuretic - 10-20 times more potent
longer acting diuretic than furosemide
what are torsemide side effects
v, d, anorexia, polyuria, increased renal values
when using torsemide we need to use caution for
dehydrated or shocky patients
what is spironlactone
diuretic less likely to cause hypokalemia - potassium sparing diuretic
doesn’t work well in dogs and cats and not used much anymore
what is spironolactone and benazepril
diuretic and ACE-inhibitor
what does spironolactone and benazepril do
reduces fluid and decreases blood pressure
what is the trade name for spironolactone and benazepril
Cardalis
