A slug weighs 8 grams after an increase of 42%. What was the slugs original weight?
100% + 42% = 142
8 = 142%
8 / 142 = 1% = 0.56..
0.56 x 100 = 5.6..

Standard form is a way of writing down very large or ver small numbers easily.
Eg. 10^3 = 10000
