C1 Maths Flashcards
Equation of line if we know gradient and one point
Y-y1 = m(x-x1)
Equation of a line if we are told two points
(Y-y1) / (y2-y1) = (X-x1) / (x2-x1)
To find length of a line if we have two separate points
Hyp^2 = a^2 + b^2
Therefore …….
Length = root (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2
To find midpoint of the line if we have two separate points
((X1+x2)/2) , ((y1+y2)/2) =midpoint
How to tell if two lines are perpendicular
Their gradients will multiply to -1
m1m2=-1
Gradient of a perpendicular bisector line?
-1 / ((y2-y1)/(x2-X1))
And then to find equation we use y= mx + c
How to find minimum point from completing the square ?
The number left is y value, the number in the bracket multiplied by -1 is x value
Minimum point for (X-5)^2 -21 = 0
(5,-21)
When do inequality signs flip?
When you divide the expression by a negative
-7x
X>5
How to do quadratic inequalities?
Factorise into brackets
Work out whether brackets have to multiply to give pos/neg result
Work out how many brackets have to be pos/neg
Make sure nothing contradicts
Work out solutions
