Briefly explain Canine Brucellosis
Brucellosis is transmitted by mucous membranes, saliva, urine,etc. and caused abortion due to placentitis. It may also a cause orchitis/epidiymitis in males. This disease is a problem because it is non-treatable and carriers are asymptomatic for life. The best test available is the Cornell Multiplex
Test.
What 4 things must a semen evaluation include?
- Color and clarity
- Total motility and progressive motility
- Morphology
- Concentration
If prostatic fluid is red what do we suspect?
Prostatitis but not always
If semen is pink/red what 2 things do we suspect?
- BPH
- Broken blood vessels on the surface of the penis
Outline routine breeding management
Observe the bitch for vulvar discharge -> this is considered day one. Then you need to identify the first day of standing estrus (when progesterone is increasing and estrus decreasing). Then breed every 2-3 days until the bitch is no longer standing. Typically they’ll breed on day 10, 12, and 14.
