Bombs and Explosives Flashcards
What is the Primary Safety Rule?
If a suspected device is encountered it should not be handled, and the area should be secured
What is the secondary safety rule?
Always assume that there is more than one device present, whether it is a bombing, threat, or device that has been located
What are low explosives?
they deflagrate (burn) rather than explode. Primarily used as propellants.
What are high explosives?
designed to shatter (brisance) rather than push.
What is a mechanical explosion?
Occurs when over pressurization causes failure of a container (steam boiler, dry ice bomb)
What is a chemical explosion?
when chemical reactions results in a instantaneous release of heat and gas
What is a nuclear explosion?
They occur when energy is released at an atomic level
What are the 3 primary effects when an explosive is detonated?
- Blast Pressure
- Fragmentation
- Incendiary/thermal
