Body Systems Flashcards
LS 2.2 Understanding body systems and functions
The group of organs that breaks down the food we eat into tiny parts to give us energy and the nutrients we need to live.
The digestive and circulatory systems both absorb gasses or nutrients into the body.
Digestive System
The group of organs that takes in oxygen from the air and sends carbon dioxide out of our bodies.
The respiratory system exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide with the circulatory system.
Respiratory System
The group of organs and vessels that carries blood to and from the heart.
The circulatory and nervous systems are both transport systems and are located throughout MOST of the body.
Circulatory System
The more than 650 muscles that control all the movements of the body.
Muscular System
All of your bones give your body shape, support its weight and protect its organs. (you have about 206 bones)
Skeletal System
Your body’s command center is guided by the brain which sends messages to the rest of your body to help you move, think and react to things around you.
