Belt, Vest, Extremity Immobilizer, Mitten
What must a doctors order for restraints include?
type, location, specific patient behaviors justifying use, Length of time device will be used
What is a way you can ensure that a patients restraints are not too tight?
should be able to fit index and middle finger between patient and device
Restraint devices can only be used for how long?
max 24 hours or less depending on MTF
what are some alternates to using protective devices?
Observe Pt frequently, have family and friends sit with patient, have family bring photos, ensure Pt comfort, keep call bell within reach
How often must documentation of restraints be completed?
every 15 minutes
How often should you release restraints and for how long?
every 2 hours for 5 minutes, inspect tissue, provide joint ROM
How do you release restraints in the combative Pt?
one restraint at a time
How often should you provide for Pt’s fluid and elimination needs, pain management and position change?
every two hours
