What do Arteries do?

A
  • Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart (apart from the Pulmonary Artery, which carries deoxygenated blood away from the heart)
  • Can handle high pressure, but not high volumes.
  • Narrow lumen; Thick muscular wall
  • Coronary arteries supply blood to the heart muscle, directly.
  • The Aorta is the largest artery in the human body.
