Description of the savanna?
Grassy layer and upper layer woody plants. The summer is hot and wet,the winter is cool and dry. Sandy soil with little nutrients. Contains shrubs,grasses and trees.
Description of a grassland?
Hot summers with high rainfall,cold winter with heavy frost. The rain leaches soil of nutrients,the soil becomes acidic. Contains mainly grass
Description of Nama-Karoo?
It is a semi-desert,receives little rain. Hot summer and cold winter. Soil rich in nutrients. Contains grass and small shrubs.
Description of the Succulent Karoo?
Hot,dry summer and cold winter. Rainfall is low. Solid is rich in lime and a thin layer of rocks. Plants adapted to dry conditions,they store water. In spring it is covered in flowers.
Description of a forest?
Trees that form closed canopy,with layers of plants beneath. High rainfall ,no frost. Has fertile soil and humus.
Description of fynbos?
The summers are hot and dry,the winters are cold and wet. Soil is sandy and acidic,this may vary. Dwarf shrubs with fine leaves,evergreen shrubs with hard leaves (proteas),grasses and few trees.
Description of thicket?
Usually in river valleys. Climate varies. High rainfall but it is irregular. Moist and fog. Short trees,vines and shrubs.
Description of desert?
Temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius. Low and unpredictable rainfall. High evaporation rates. Sandy soil.
