Bioenergetics Flashcards
1
Q
PHOTOSYNTHESIS REACTION
- Carbon Dioxide + Water —> Glucose + Oxygen
- 6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
A
RATE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
- Affected by light intensity, CO2 concentration, temperature.
- They become limiting factors: they can stop photosynthesis from happening any faster.
- Combined effect on rate of photosynthesis.
- At night it is the light, winter it is the temperature, when warm and bright it is the amount of CO2.
- Chlorophyll can also be a limiting factor: amount can be effected by disease or environmental stress.

Q
USE OF GLUCOSE IN PLANTS
- Respiration: transfers energy to glucose so other glucose can be used in other substances.
- Make Cellulose: to make strong plant cell walls.
- Make Amino Acids: combined with nitrate ions to make amino acids which are made into proteins.
- Stored as Oils/Fats: turned into lipids for storing seeds.
- Stored as Starch: stored in roots, stems, leaves, it is insoluble as it doesn’t draw in loads of water.
A
AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC
-Aerobic: •Respiration using oxygen
•Glucose + Oxygen —> Carbon Dioxide + Water
-Anaerobic: •Respiration without oxygen
•Vigorous exercise, can’t get enough oxygen to the muscles
•Glucose —> Lactic Acid
3
Q
RESPONSE TO EXERCISE
- Respire more.
- Muscles need energy from respiration to contract.
- Need more energy as the contract more.
- HR increases to get more oxygen in the blood.
A
METABOLISM
- All the chemical reactions in an organism.
- Lots of chemical reactions controlled by enzymes.
- Sum of all reaction in cell/body is called it’s metabolism.
