What are the characteristics of living organisms?

How do plants respond to their surroundings?
By growing in the direction of light or gravity.
Name the 3 main chemical elements that are found in carbohydrates.
Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
What type of biological molecules are made up of:
a) fatty acids and glycerol?
b) amino acids
a) lipids
b) proteins
Describe the biuret test for proteins.
Add biuret solution to the sample and gently shake the mixture. If protein is present in the sample, the solution will go from blue to pink or purple. If not, the solution will stay blue.
Describe the test for starch.
Add a few drops of iodine solution to the food sample. If starch is present, the colour will change from brown-orange to blue-black. If not, the colour will remain brown-orange.
