Bio cell organelle functions Flashcards
CELL WALL
Protects and supports the cell and allows H2O, O2, CO2 to pass into and out of cell
CELL MEMBRANE
- support
- protection
- controls movement of materials in/out of cell
- barrier between cell and its environment
- maintains homeostasis
CYTOPLASM
-supports /protects cell organelles
-contains cytoskelon fibers
NUCLEUS
-Controls all of the cell’s activities
-key organelle which has the genetic material and is involved in multiplication of cell, growth and maintenance of cell.
NUCLEAR MEMBRANE
Controls movement of materials in/out of nucleus
NUCLEOLUS
store Dna and houses genetic info
CHROMATIN
Provides instructions for the cells activities, (growth, reproduction)
ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
- Synthesis of fats/lipids
- Ribosomes synthesis proteins for export
SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
carries material through the cell
RIBOSOME
synthesizes proteins
MITOCHONDRIA
- breaks down sugar molecules into energy
- site of aerobic cellular respiration
VACUOLES
- Vacuoles are pouches in the cell that store materials such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates, waste products and toxic waste..
- store food, water, waste (plants need to store large amounts of food)
CHLOROPLAST
Captures sunlight and uses it to produce food through photosynthesis
GOLGI BODY
- to modify and package proteins for export
- have cis and trans face
LYSOSOME
- breaks down larger food molecules into smaller molecules
- digests old cell parts
