Binary fission vs Mitosis Flashcards
Binary fission occurs in unicellular organisms but mitosis
In somatic organisms cells of multicellular organisms like plants , animals and fungi
During Binary fission the prokaryote single strand molecule of nucleic acid ,DNA or RNA begins to replicate .The details of DNA replication in mitosis is different
AS it involves the double helix being unzipped and a whole host of single molecules ,enzymes and cofactors
In binary fission there are no spindle fibres the molecule elongates pushing the edges of the cell further apart . When replication is complete two molecules split and the cell membrane begins to cleave , separating identical genomes into two distinct cells in mitosis
spindle fibres pull sister chromatids apart to opposite poles of cells
Binary fission doesn’t include all of the steps in mitosis
prophase , metaphase , anaphase, telophase so has no centromeres , sister chromatids , spindle fibres , and other constituent parts of mitosis
similarities
Genetically identical cells
genetical material is replicated
