Bernoulli's principle/ Magnus effect/ spin Flashcards
What is Bernoulli’s Principle?
Velocity of a fluid increases, its pressure decrease.
Bernoulli’s law states that as high pressure air moves towards low pressure air - creating lift. As the velocity of the air increases , the pressure decreases.
Eg. Dumbbells more force less velocity in bicep curl.
Bernoulli’s Principle equation?
Fast Flow (velocity) = Low Pressure (force)
What is the Magnus effect
Lifting force that affects the flight path of a spinning ball. High pressure air moves towards low pressure air cousin g the ball to to spin.
Magnus effect
What is the Boundary Layer?
On one side, the motion of the boundary layer will be in the same direction as the wind stream to which the object is exposed.
On this side the velocity increased on the other side, where the velocity is decreased the boundary layer will be in the opposite direction.
What is Top Spin?
Premature downwards movement of a ball due to the effects of air pressure.
What is the mechanics of Top Spin?
It is created by sliding the rocket up and over the ball as it is struck.
What is the effect of Top Spin?
The effect is forward spin increases, downwards pressure on the ball, stays low and accelerates toward, it will then bounce in an awards direction.
What is Back Spin?
Lifting effects of a ball in flight due to the effects of air pressure.
What is the mechanics of Back Spin?
Created by sliding the racket underneath the ball as it is struck.
What is the effects of Back Spin?
Angle decrease the downwards pressure on the ball and will bounce in a downwards direction.
What is Side Spin?
the turn of a ball in flight to left or right due to the effects of air pressure.
What is the mechanics of Side Spin?
Created by brushing your racket against the ball in a sideways motion.
What is the effect of Side Spin?
Left brush will turn left
Right brush will turn right
