Being prepared for mistakes Flashcards
Being prepared for other drivers’ mistakes
Being prepared for mistakes is an important part of being a good driver.
This can be the difference between having a serious crash and a minor one. It could even help you avoid a crash altogether.
Good drivers are prepared for other drivers’ mistakes.
They slow down when there are lots of hazards or poor driving conditions.
They keep a safe following distance by using the 2-second rule or the 4-second rule.
They look 12 seconds ahead of their car to check for hazards. That helps them get ready to react if they need to.
They check for clues about what other drivers are going to do, rather than just relying on indicators.
Slow down when passing parked cars
This means you’ll have more time to react if driver pulls out with little or no warning.
Always check your blind spots
If you know what’s happening around your car, you’re less likely to hurt yourself or someone else.
And remember to scan for hazards.
