Consumer
Someone who buys a product or uses a service
Influence
A way of encouraging consumers to buy a product
Organic
A product that is produced without additives or pesticides
Ethical
Concerned about people and the environment
Service
Something that is used by a consumer as public transport
Need
Something that is neccesary
Planned purchase
Thinking about/researching a product or service before purchase
Buying
Buying something on a ‘whim’ (without planning or research)
Impulse
An item which nought by a consumer such as food or clothes
Treats at the checkout
This is used to entice customers in make a last minute purchase. Usually include sweets.
Luxury products
Often more expensive products (which a consumer may buy as a treat) are displayed using clever lighting and more sophisticated displays than other food items
Ways to pay
With alternatives to pay such as credit or debit card, self service and click and collect allow people to spend more money, giving the company more money.
Eye level is buy level
Allow for people to see the most important products easily
Where are the bread and milk
Makes the consumer have to go the whole way round the shop, hopefully buying other products along the way. Usually displayed at the end of the supermarket.
Seasonal products grouped together
Makes it easier for people to buy more seasonal goods than they realise
