Light Lagers
Pale and crisp
Pairing - spicy food, burgers, salad, fried chicken/fish
Wheat Beers
Mix or wheat and barley. Smoother texture with light carbonation, many brewers add citrus or other fruity flavoring to the beer
Pairing - spicy foods, fried fish, fruit desserts
IPA
India pale ale, medium amber color and feature a bitter flavor. A lot of brewers add citrus or herbal notes to the beer to make the bitterness more palatable. Bitterness for bear is rated on an IBU scale
Pairing - steak, bbq, Mexican food
Amber Ales
Medium mouthfeel that range from amber to deep reddish-gold. Strong flavors of malt and notes of caramel that complement the roasted malt
Pairing - pizza, fried food, smoked pork, brisket
Dark Lager
Made with roasted malts and many have caramel added. The malt gives the beer a nutty flavor and the added caramel brings very subtle sweetness
Pairing - pizza, burger, hearty stew, sausage
Brown Ale
Hints of chocolate and coffee with dry nutty flavors
Pairing - sausage, roasted pork, bbq, tuna, fried fish
Porter
Originated in London, roasted aroma and roasted flavor made from brown malts that give the beer notes of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Thick and silky, but with a crisper finish than a stout
Pairing - coffee-flavored dessert, game meats, bbq
Stouts
Known for their black color and dark roasted flavor, strong hints of chocolate, coffee and a thick silky smooth consistency
Pairing - chocolate desserts, bbq, Mexican food
