What is the hand mirror for
Viewing intra-orally, soft tissue retraction

No. 2 (looks like a sicle) No. 6 (the usual one) No.8 ( looks like 2 and 6 combined) No. 54 ( very curved) Briault (odd shape)
What are tweezers used for
Holding small objects
What are the 2 types of tweezers and how do you identify them
Surgery (striped pattern)

What are excavators used for
Caries excavation, material removal and manipulation

What are chisels used for
Finishing cavo-surface margin angles and enamel surfaces, removal of unsupported enamel prisms

Blacks 51&52, 53&54 (they look like chisels with a straight nib and angled head) Blacks 84 (looks like an actual chisel)

A chisel but with a curved nib

Condensing amalgam, maniplulating composite
What are the types of condensors

guys plugger
standard plugger
they have long nibs that are normally wider at the end, lustra and guys easy to identify but standard can be harder to spot
What are carvers used for
Carving amalgam. shaping composite
What do carvers look like
look a wee bit like flat plastics but shaped more like a blade for cutting
What are burnishers used for
Finishing amalgam restorations, manipulating composite
What do burnishers look like
kind of like condensors but a lot smaller nib or have a ball at the end
What are applicators used for
Placement of lining materials
What are the types of applicators
Thymozin No.2 The usual one
Thymozin No.3 A lot more curved
What are spatulas used for
Mixing materials like GI
What are matrix retainers used for
Replacing cavity walls, assisting in moisture control

Composite placement, Carrying amalgam from Dappen pot to cavity
