Basic Of Antibiotics Flashcards
What is a bacteriostatic antibiotic ?
Opposite to bactericidal antibiotics.
It don’t kill the bacteria but prevent its replication.
What is amoxicillin ?
A penicillin working on the inhibition of the cell wall synthesis.
What is often prescribed to prevent resistance against amoxicillin ?

It attaches itself to the free beta lactam ring (enzyme produced by the bacteria) to prevent it from hydrolysing (breaking down) the amoxicillin.
What is the main problem of ciprofloxacin ?
It can have a lot of antibiotics resistance. Because it has been used often.
There can be rare case of tendinitis, tendon rupture or toxicity (skin, liver, kidney) but there aren’t present enough to be serious.
