Basal Ganglia Flashcards

1
Q

Direct pathway?

A

Cortex to striatum excitatory
Striatum to global pallidus inner-inhibitory, unable to inhibits thalamus, which causes excitation of cortex

Q

Indirect pathway?

A

Cortex to striatum excitatory, striatum to global pallidus external inhibitory, which is unable to inhibit subthalamic nucleus causing global pallidus internal excitation, which is able to inhibit thalamus preventing any excitation to cortex.
