B1 Cell Biology Flashcards
What are all living things made up of?
Cells
What are the two types of cells?
Prokaryotic or Eukaryotic
Describe Eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotic cells are complex and include animal and plant cells.
Describe Prokaryotic cells
Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler e.g. Bacteria
What is a Eukaryotes?
Eukaryotes are organisms that are made up of Eukaryotic cells
What is a Prokaryote?
A Prokaryote is a prokaryotic cell (its a single-celled organism)
what are parts of the cell called?
Sub-cellular structures
Explain the Nucleus in the Animal Cell
The Nucleus contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
Explain the Cytoplasm in the Animal cell
The cytoplasm is a gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen, it contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
Explain the Cell membrane in the Animal cell
The cell membrane holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
Explain the Mitochondria in the Animal cell
the Mitochondria is where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
Explain Ribosomes in the Animal cell
Ribosomes are where proteins are made in the cell
Do plant cells have the same Subcellular structures as Animal cells
Plant cells usually have all the bits that animal cells and extra things that animal cells donโt have
Name 5 things in plant cells that are also in animal cells
- Nucleus
- Cytoplasm
- Cell membrane
- Mitochondria
- Ribosomes
Explain Rigid cell wall in the plant cell
The Rigid cell wall is made of cellulose, it supports the cell and strengthens it.
