Carry out photosynthesis combining CO2 + H2O to produce their own organic compounds
Light energy is transferred to carbon containing compounds as chemical energy , by addition of atoms of other elements
Photoautotrophs can synthesise organic compounds e.g multicellular algae

Us energy from chemicals to combine inorganic substances to synthesise organic compounds
