AutosomaI and X-linked inheritance Flashcards
what does autosomal inheritance mean?
Gene is located on one of the autosomes
male and females are equally likely to inherit the gene
what is autosomal dominance?
Inheriting a single copy of the gene variant is enough to cause a condition
what is autosomal recessive inheritance?
The child needs to inherit two copies of the gene to have a certain condition
what is nonmendelian inheritance?
Any inheritance pattern that fails to follow one or move laws of mendelian genetics
-sex linked traits
-codominance
-multiple alleles
what is a sex-linked trait?
Trait in which a gene is located on a sex chromosome
mostly X-linked traits as it is longer than Y-chromosome
What is codominance inheritance?
Both alleles are dominant and the individual expresses both traits simultaneously in a patchwork arrangement
In incomplete dominance, how does the individual display the traits?
Individual blends the two traits
E.g- white flower + red flower = pink flower
