autonomic NS Flashcards
WHat part of the nervous system causes heart rate to increase?
sympathetic NS
what is meant by dual inneravtion?
have both sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation but is usually ANTAGONISTIC
When do the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems cooperate?
during male sexual function.
parasympathetic - erection
Sympathetic - ejaculation
WHat parts of body are innervated by Sympathetic NS only?
sweat glands and blood vessel smooth muscle
What does sympathetic NS cause?
bronchodilation, pupil dilation, BP rise, vasoconstriction to skin +viscera
vasodilaiton to skeletal muscle and heart.
What do sympathetic pre-ganglionic neurons synapse with?
adrenal medulla
what does adrenaline do?
activate alpha and beta receptors
dilate bronchi and increase blood pressure
what is salbutamol?
a beta2 selective agonist
give 3 adrenergic agonists
adrenaline, cocaine, amphetamines.
what are b-blockers?
beta1 selective antagonists
give beta2-selective agonist
salbutomal (target/dilate broncial smooth muscle )
What does parasympathetic NS cause?
decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, pupillary constriction , and promotes secretion and digestion
what part of NS stimulates defacation and urination?
parasympathetic
how many types of muscurinic receptor is there?
5 subtypes
give an cholinergic antagonist
ATROPINE (blocks muscarinic receptor)
