Q

When a typhoon weakens, will it change to a tropical cyclone (tropical depression-TD) or an extratropical cyclone (low pressure system in the middle latitudes)?

A

Both are possible.
* If the structure of a typhoon changes, it will change to an extratropical cyclone.
* If only the intensity weakens with no change of its structure, then a typhoon will change to a tropical cyclone.
* Extratropical cyclones have frontal features, i.e. they are associated with cold fronts, warm fronts, and occluded fronts. On the other hand, tropical cyclones have no fronts.

Q

What determines maximum altitude?

A

It is based on MAX Climb Thrust (MCLT) with 300ft/min residual rate of climb, and MAX Cruise Thrust (MCRT) with 0ft/min residual rate of climb. [AOM PP.20.9], [AOM PD.81.7]

Q

When a typhoon is moving in a north-east direction, which side is the dangerous semicircle?

A

Over the northern hemisphere, the air flows towards the centre of a typhoon in a counter-clockwise direction. High winds and waves are normally most prominent on the right-hand side of the moving typhoon (known as the “dangerous semicircle”) where the speed of forward movement of the typhoon itself is added on top of the wind circulating around the typhoon. In contrast, the winds and waves on the left-hand side (known as the “navigable semicircle”) will be somewhat reduced by the forward movement of the typhoon.

Q

Exterior inspection. What is the purpose of the vertical red line on the engine pod?
[B787 INFO 086 (20/41)]

A

This red line indicates hazard area when the engine is running.
When approaching the engine, stay aft of the red line to avoid being sucked in.

17
Q

Airworthiness category of B787?

A

Airplane, Transport Category.

18
Q

Load factor (g) limit for Transport category airplanes.

A

-1.0g (negative) to +2.5g (positive)

19
Q

Bank angle resulting in load factor +2.5g.

A

Bank angle 60º (level flight): +2.0g
Approx bank angle 65º (level flight): +2.5g

20
Q

787 pilot eye height is high. What do you need to be careful about while taxiing?

A

Flight Deck Perspective [TM 8-1-(32)]

21
Q

What will you make sure of before setting the parking brake?

A

Make sure the airplane is completely stopped by watching left or right.

22
Q

What is the condition when [] FUEL QTY LOW message appears?
[AOM 12.30.3]

A
22
Q

Path angle of PAPI on-path indication (2 reds & 2 whites) for Non-ILS runways and ILS runways.

A

[AIM-J. page 0-9], [AIM-J 153]
*Non-ILS RWY: 3.17° - 2.83° path. (3° plus or minus 0.17°)
*ILS RWY: 3.25° - 2.75° path (3° plus or minus 0.25°)
On-path-indication is wider to enable harmonization of PAPI with ILS.

23
Q

Is the Stop Bar Light System an automatic system?

A

*lt is manually controlled by ATC. [AIM-J 155]
*When the red Stop bar lights is turned on, the TWY CL lights ahead will come off.
*On the other hand, RWY Status Lights System functions automatically. [AIM-J 155]

24
Q

PAPI location requirement.

A

PAPI is positioned so that Minimum Eye Height over Threshold (MEHT) is maintained for the largest type of aircraft using the specific runway.
Hence when a smaller aircraft follows PAPI, it may touchdown beyond the nominal touchdown point. [AIM-J 153, Note]

25
Q

Do you know RJTT/HND RWY 16L/R have two different PAPI’s?

A

When RNP RWY16L/R is used 3.25° PAPI is turned on.
When ILS RWY16L/R is used 3° PAPI is turned on.
[JEPP 10-9A]

26
Q

Shutdown procedure. When can you shutdown engines after LDG?

A

90 seconds

27
Q

lf an airplane has to be evacuated, all passengers must be capable of getting out within what amount of time?

A

90 seconds

28
Q

Equipment to carry for evacuation (Captain and Copilot).

A

[AOM EVAC.10.6]

29
Q

Where do you go after the Evacuation checklist is completed (Captain and Copilot)?

A

Duties after Emergency Landing [AOM EVAC 10.4]

29
Q

If the checklist title is in all capital letters, what does it mean?
If it is in capital and small letters, what does it mean?

A

*AII capitals: Checklists provided for EICAS alert messages, which are called annunciated checklists. Checklist title is identical with the EICAS alert message. [QRH CI.2.5]
*Capital and small letters: Unannunciated checklists. [QRH CI.2.5]

30
Q

How many checklists include memory items?

A
31
Q

How many Unannunciated checklists are provided?

A
32
Q

When do you consider an emergency landing?
Emergency Landing [QRH CI.2.3]

A
33
Q

What are the hazards involving volcanic ash in flight?
[AOM SP.16.27], [Volcanic Ash Checklist]

A
34

[QRH, Engines, APU]

A
35
Q

Pros and cons of HUD.

A

Read Head Up Display [TM 8-1-(26)]
Tell your own story why you sometimes feel PFD is easier to use.

36
Q

Explain the two symbology modes (full & decluttered) of HUD.
When will you select decluttered mode?
[AOM 10.22.2]

A
37
Q

When using HUD decluttered mode while flying an CAT I ILS approach in marginal weather, what do you need to be careful about?

A

The RWY Symbol (RWY Edge Lines) on HUD decluttered mode might make the pilots incorrectly perceive that the actual RWY is in sight. [AOM 10.12.26]
Runway Edge Lines [AOM 10.22.7]

38
Q

What symbol is removed from HUD prior to touchdown?

A

RWY Symbol (RWY Edge Lines). Decluttered mode only.
