Q

Explain the movement of air through different types of cells (The Three Cell Model).

A

Warm air at the equator is low pressure so it rises and when it reaches upper atmosphere spreads out to 30degrees north and south where it cools enough to sink. This air sinks and when it reaches back towards the earth surfaces it travel back along to reach the equator where it then warms again. This completes The Hadley Cell.

At the poles (90degrees north and south) air is under high pressure so it sinks

  1. Cold air sinks because it is high pressure, and heavier, moving to low pressure.
  2. Travels back to equator where it will repeat Hadley cell or move to Ferrell, then Polar cell. Talk about two other cells
