how did aryanisation of the civil service occur
between 1933-35, a series of laws were passed that removed jews from civil service, education and the health system
April 1933: the law for the restoration of a professional public service = led to the removal of jews from positions in the government
July 1938: all jewish doctors removed from the medical register and only permitted to treat jewish patients
November 1938: jewish children totally excluded from german schools
December 1938: the “aryanisation” or takeover of all Jewish businesses
key events of aryanisation in 1937
- attacks on jews legitimised by the state
- jews forced from economic life
- all jewish businesses had to be registered and many seized as the government followed a policy of “aryanisation” of economic life
- jews stopped from entering theatres, public parks and holiday resorts
- had to have special identity papers and a red “J” stamped on passport
- jewish doctors couldn’t treat german patients
