Articulating Casts and Waxing Flashcards
1
Q
What must be considered when placing restorations?
Failure to consider this causes what?
A
- occlusion
- trauma or damage to TMJ, restored teeth/tooth or opposing teeth
2
Q
Occlusal contacts should be noted where?
A
- open
- closing position
- excursive movements
3
Q
What are the consequences of a restoration being too high?
A
- occlusal disharmony
- potential further damage
4
Q
Consequence of restoratiobs being too low
A
- no contact of teeth
5
Q
Role of an articulator
A
- in indirect or complex treatment (multiple crowns or occlusal reorganisation)
- articulator may be used
- considers patients occlusion remotely so adequate planning and consideration given when restoring
6
Q
Types of articulator
A
- hadn articulation
- simple hinge
- average value
- semi-adjustable
7
Q
When placing direct fillings, how can patient help with articulation?
A
- can check occlusal contacts with them prior to treatment and after for occlusal harmony
- shimstock foil and articulating paper can be put in the mouth to check static and dynamic occlusal contacts before during and after treatment
- interferances can be adjusted during restoration until harmony restored
8
Q
How to check accuracy of articulating casts?
A
- shimstock and articulating paper
- can feel and observe occlusal contacts
9
Q
How to simulate interferances with articulating casts?
A
- remove contacting cusp and incisal edge
- restore with wax
- occlude casts and the wax should break and shear off in movement
