Define: Integers, Factor, Divisor and Multiple
Integer: a whole #, a # that is not a fraction.
Factor: integers that are multiplied, each integer is a factor of a multiple
Divisor: integers that are divided
Multiple: the resulting product of two factors
Define: Least common multiple of two nonzero integers
The least positive multiple (or product) of both integers
Ex. LCM of 30 and 75 = 150
30x2,30x3,30x4,30x5… 30x5=150
75x2=150
Define: Greatest common divisor (or greatest common factor) of two nonzero integers
The greatest positive integer that is divisor of both integers.
Ex. GCD of 30 and 75 = 15
Divisors of 30: 1,2,3,5,6,10,15
Divisors of 75: 1,3,5,15
Define: Quotient and Remainder
A whole integer and a remainder Ex. 19/7= 2R5 Ex. 6/24= 0R6 (24 cannot go into 6) Ex. -32/3= -11R1 (greatest multiple of 3 that is LESS than or equal to -32 is -11x3=-33 which is 1 less than -32 Ex. 100/3=33R1 (3x33=99, 99+100)
Define: Even Integer and Odd Integer
Even Integer: divisible by 2
Odd Integer: not divisible by 2
Define: Prime Number
An integer that is greater than 1 and is only divisible by two integers.
Ex. 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29
1 is NOT a prime number.
2 is the only even prime number
Define: Prime Factorization
Product when only using prime numbers
Composite number
An integer greater than 1 that is not a prime number.
Ex. 4,6,8,9,10,12
Find the ______ to add 2 fractions with different denominators
Common denominator
Ex. 1/3 + -2/5 = 5/15 + -6/15= -1/15
How to multiple fractions
Multiple the numerators and the denominators.
10/7(-1/3)= -10/21
How to divide fractions
Multiply by the reciprocal
Ex. 17/8 divided by 3/5
17/8*5/3= 85/24
Define Mixed Numbers
An integer and a fraction.
An expression such as 4 and 3/8 = 4+3/8
Solve for the fractional expression where P=pie: P/2+P/3
Find a common denominator, 6.
3P/6+2P/6= 5P/6
The exponent zero for non zero numbers using “a”
For a: a^0= 0
0^0 is undefined
Negative exponents for nonzero numbers using “a”
For a: a^-1 = 1/a
a^-2= 1/(a^2)
a^-3= 1/(a^3)
