Approaches; Introduction Flashcards
1
Q
Inductive reasoning
A
Make a specific observation → recognise a pattern that can be generalised/test it → draw a general conclusion or theory
2
Q
Deductive Reasoning
A
Existing theory → hypothesis (reduce then make predictions) → experiment/collect data to confirm or deny theory
3
Q
Empiricism
A
factual knowledge can only come from our experience with the world, collects data from direct experiences; this is conducting rigorous scientific research.
4
Q
Hypotheses testing
A
State the hypothesis → conducting an experiment → choosing test statistics → decision making → drawing conclusion about population
5
Q
Aims
A
Researchers have a general research question which leads to their overall aim.
