Q

What is the MOA and use of cyptoheptadine?

A

antihistamine and serotonin receptor (5HT2) blocker

used in cats
hit or miss
also antipruretic effects

Q

what is the MOA use and SE of Mirtazapine?

A

NaSSA (noradrenergic slective serotonin antagonist) - human antidepressant

MOA:
stimulates NE release
increases specific serotonergic (5HT1)
potent antagonist of 5HT2 (likely cause of increase appetite)
potent antagonist of 5HT3 (antinausea/emetic)
potent antagonist of H1 (histamine) sedation

SE: vocalization
