Q

Lithium

A

Mood stabilzer; unknown mechanism (lithium depletes 2ndary messengers IP3 and DAG, which are important in alpha-adrenergic and muscarininic-cholinergic transmission). Anti-manic/mood stabilizer (bipolar disorder) and long term cluster headache prevention. N/V are early signs of OD. Don’t give if prone to dehydration

17
Q

Ketamine

A

NMDA receptor antagonist => rapid antidepressant response (normally an IV anesthetic/street drug “special K”). could be miracle cure for depression? start on ketamine until antidepressants can kick in?
