Antibiotics strictly mechanisms Flashcards
Chloramphenicol
Inhibits 50s peptidyltransferase
Isoniazid
decrease synthesis of mycolic acids
Ticarcillin, carbenicillin, pipericillin
Bind PBPs, inhibit transpeptidase cross-linking. Extended spectrum, antipseudomonal
Aztreonam
Inhibits cell wall synthesis, resistant to Beta-lactamases
Tetracyclines
Bind 30s subunit and prevent attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA
Sulfonamides
inhibits dihydropteroate synthetase
Poymyxins
Bind to cell membranes, disrupt osmotic properties
Imipenem/cilastatin, meropenem
broad-spectrum, beta-lactamase resistant carbapenem
Clindamycin
blocks peptide bond formation at 50s ribosomal subunit
Methicillin, nafcillin, dicloxaillin
Bind PBPs and block transpeptidase cross-linking, but penicillinase resistant due to bulkier R group
Trimethoprim
inhibits dihydrofolate reductase
Vancomycin
Binds D-ala D-ala portion of cell wall precursors to inhibit cell wall formation
Fluoroquinolones
Inhibit DNA gyrase (topo II)
Aminoglycosides
Bind 30s subunit, inhibit formation of initiation complex and cause misreading of mRNA in aerobes
Rifampin
inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase
