Also SARTAN - angiotensin receptor blockers
ace (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors) stop the vasoconstricting effect of angiotensin II on blood vessels. Stops the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2.
Captopril
side effects - cough/bronchospasm,
ALSO angiotensin receptor blockers - losartan, valsartan, canderstartan
again stop angiotensin II production.
B BETA BLOCKERS - all end in LOL “LOL at betamax”
act on symathetic nervous system. take several weeks. reduce adrenaline, reduce cardio output and renin by kidney. tablets, BLOCK B1 receptors in heart.
C - calcium channel blockers - end in pine
Nifedipine, Amlodipine, Nicardipine. (end in pine).
side effects - mild - hyperkalaemia
D - diuretics LOOP (mainly end in IDE)
act on loop of henle. Severe hypertension, short duration,
flurosemide
side effects - increaces uric acid in blood plasma. HYPOCALAEMIA
D - Diuretics THIAZINE like (mainly end in IDE)
1st line treatment.
Increase urine output. Bendroflumethiazide - stops sodium reabsorption.
D Diuretcs - spiralactone/ amiloride
These are potassium sparing diuretcs. aldosterone antagonist. They should not be taken by anyone who has high levels of potassium in their blood, severe kidney problems, or Addison’s disease/kidney problems
