Anterior & Lateral Leg Muscles Flashcards
Peroneus (Fibularis) Longus
O:
I:
N:
A:
O: Lateral surface of the proximal 1/2 or of the fibula & overlying fascia
-Tendon passes around lateral cuboid, across plantar surface of cuboid, medially across planta surface of the foot
I: Lateral aspect of Medial Cuneiform bone & base of 1st metatarsal
N: Superficial portion of Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Ankle Eversion and weak Plantar Flexion (of Talocrural joint)
Peroneus Brevis
O:
I:
N:
A:
O: Lateral surface of distal 1/2 or so of the fibula & overlying fascia
I: Base of the 5th Metatarsal
N: Superficial portion of Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Ankle Eversion and Weak Plantar Flexion (of Talocrural Joint)
Anterior Tibialis
O:
I:
N:
A:
O: Lateral surface of the Tibia, Interosseous membrane, deep fascia, and the septum with the Extensor Digitorum Longus muscle
-fibers converge into distinct cord-like tendon
-tendon is most medial and prominent tendon on dorsum foot
I: Medial and Inferior surface of medial cuneiform bone & the base of the 1st metatarsal
N:Deep portion of the Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Dorsioflexion of the Talocrural Joint
Extensor Digitorum Longus
O:
I:
N:
A:
O: Anterior surface of proximal portion of the fibula, lateral tibial condyle, interosseous membrane, and the septum with the Tibialis Anterior
I: Tendon divides into 4 separate tendons that attach into the “extensor Expansion-like” mechanism on the dorsal lateral 4 toes
N: Deep portion of the Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Extend the lateral 4 toes
Extensor Hallicus Longus
O:
I:
N:
A:
O: Anterior surface of the distal 1/2-2/3 of the fibula & the Interosseous Membrane
-fibers converge into a distinct cord-like tendon
-Tendon is located on the dorsum of the foot, between the tendons of the Tibialis Anterior & Extensor Digitorum Longus
I: Dorsal surface of the Distal Phalanx of the Great Toe
N: Deep portion of the Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Extends the joints of the Great Toe, Weak Dorsiflexion of the Talocrural Joint
Peroneus Tertius
O:

N:
A:
-Only Peroneus muscle in the Anterior Compartment!
O: Distal 1/8 of the anterior surface of the fibula and the Anterior Intermuscular Septum
I: Tendon passes in a lateral direction to attach into the dorsal surface of the 5th Metatarsal bone
N: Deep portion of the Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
A: Dorsiflexion
