ANS Flashcards
the ANS has two systems called?
Somatic and Autonomic
the somatic system is?
voluntary excitation skeletal muscles
the autonomic system is?
involuntary excitation and inhibitation of smooth muscles, cardiac muscle and glands
how many neurons in somatic peripheral pathway?
1 in CNS ventral horn which extends to effector
how many neurons in autonomic peripheral pathway?
2 - 1. preganglionic neurons with cell body in CNS (axon myelinated) 2. postganglionic neurons with cell body in ganglion (axon unmyelinated), which extends to effectors
what are the division of ANS
parasympathetic (rest/relaxation) and sympathetic (cause change to happen)
where is the sympathetic ganglia located?
paravertebral chain - close to vertebral on either side and prevertebral ganglia - close to blood vessel in gut
where are the cell body of the preganglionic nerves?
all in s.c. CNS, T1-L2 in lateral horn
where are the cell body of the post ganglionic nerves?
in the ganglion paravertebral or perverterbal chain - with unmyelinated axons
nerves that pass through paravertebral chain and does not synapse are called?
Splanchnic nerves
where are the preganglionic cell body in the parasympathetic?
brainstem and sacral
where is the parasympathetic ganglia located?
near the effectors - in wall of organ
where are the postganglionic cell body located?
in wall or target organ
nerves that pass threw ganglion in parasympathetic system is called?
pelviv splanchnic nerves
