What does the term “superior” mean? Also another word for “cranial”

- body is erect
- feet are slightly apart
- palms face forward with the thumbs pointing away from the body
What does “inferior” or “caudal” mean?
away from the head end or towards the lower part of a structure of a body ; below
What does “anterior” or “ventral” mean?
towards or at the front end of the body ; in front of
What does “posterior” or “dorsal” mean?
towards or at the back of the body ; behind
What does “medial” mean?
Towards or at the midline of the body ; on the inner side of
What does “lateral” mean?
Away from the midline of the body; on the outer side of
What does “intermediate” mean?
Between a more medial and more lateral structure
What does “proximal” mean?
Closer to the origin of the body part of the point of attachment
What does “distal” mean?
Farther from the origin of the body or the point of attachment
What does “superficial” mean?
Towards or at the body’s surface
What does “deep” mean?
Away from the body’s surface ; more internal
What are the two fundamental divisions of the body?
the axial part and the appendicular part
