Q

Clitellata > Oligochaetae > HIRUDINOMORPHS

What are they and their apomorphies?

A

Hirudinomorphs are leeches!
They have:
1. posterior sucker/ anterior suckers (remember they can walk?)
2. unsegmented body but with superficial marks
3. No chaetae
4. unpaired mid-ventral gonopore
5. lives as a parasite
6. have sensory papillae - like those tiny rings on their skin

Q

ECHIURA: aka the spoonworms! What are their apomorphies?

A
  1. pair of anterior ventral chaetae
  2. deposite feeders
  3. 2 posterior rings of chaetae (beta chitin)
  4. prostromium (upper half of the spoon)
  5. prostomial and trunk coelom
  6. intestinal siphon - to bypass H2O

  2. Tentacles & tentacular coelom
  3. J-Shaped intestinal tract
  4. Intestinal ciliary grooves! (water shunt?)
  5. Cuticle with scattered hooks
